First Aid & CPR Training

On February 18, 2026, SMT hosted a 7 hour First Aid and CPR training class.  The class was held at Seeley Lake Community Foundation Building - west wing.  Montana Heath & Safety Training provided the instruction to a house of 14 attendees.  The topic covered were First Aid basic, Medical / Injury / Environmental Emergencies, CPR for all ages, proper use of AEDs & NARCAN and "Stop the Bleed".  Thank you to our friends at Montana Heath & Safety for conducting this valuable training.  SMT intends to host this training session later this year in October.

Avalanche Awareness

SMT hosted an Avalanche Awareness Training Session on the evening of February 4, 2026.  The number of attendees was again at full capacity of 13.  Staff from the West Central Montana Avalanche Center  in Missoula provided the instruction.  Forecasters Arty, Cam, Nata and Jack shared their experience, as well as, the current Avalanche conditions in and around Seeley Lake.  How to read the Avalanche forecasting information online, how to apply that information when you are in the field and safety/rescue equipment were the main training topics.  Seeley Lake is fortunate to have an Avalanche Center near our mountain recreation areas.  SMT would like to thank Arty, Cam, Nata & Jack for providing this valuable training.  We hope to have them back for regular annual or bi-annual sessions.

STOP THE BLEED

The Stop The Bleed Safety Class on January 20, 2026 was a huge success.  A maximum group of 12 people attended.  Racheal Vargas, Executive Director of Montana Health & Safety Training was the instructor. Attendeees learned that arresting the bleeding from an injury could save a life.   Hands on training was provided for packing an injury and how to properly use a tourniquet.  SMT safety Coordinator Garry Forman shared his personal experience with Stopping a Bleed.  Fun and knowledge was shared by all.
